- Symbolizes purity, beauty, devotion, and rebirth
Their symbolism comes from ancient myths as well as some religions, one being on how it grew from the breast milk of the Goddess Hera. Another one being with Assyrian and Babylonian culture as they referred the lilies to their goddess Ishtar, who is the goddess of war and fertility. For some religions such as Christianity they consider the lily as a symbol of purity and innocence.
- Have uses in medicine
Over the centuries many cultures have been using lilies for medical ailment such as China, Native Americans, as well as various parts of Europe. Some use it for the same things, as China and Native Americans used the bulb of the lily for dry throats, coughs and other respiratory issues. Whereas in Europe they used the petal and the bulb of the lily for certain skin conditions such as boils, burns and others. They even used it to help with peoples arteries and help with their heart rate.
- Not all the Lilies are true Lilies
As you may have heard of different types of lilies such as Peace Lily, Canna Lily, Water Lily. Those Lilies are actually not considered an actual lily. A true lily has one single leafy stem and they have six petals and six anthers. For example Water Lily it is grown only the water it doesn’t need dirt or soil to thrive, and has round flat leaves to float on top of. Another one is Lily of the Valley, for this flower it has multiple bell-shaped flowers on the stem which doesn’t match the six petal and six anthers that a tur lily have.

Lilies come in several type of colors as with each one they have their own meaning. For White Lilies they represent Purity, grace, rebirth and innocence. Yellow lilies mean friendship, happiness, and joy. Pink lilies represent felinity, abundance, gratitude and admiration. Green lilies means harmony and renewal. Orange lilies mean energy, confidence and enthusiasm. Red means passion, romance, desire and love. Lastly for purple lilies they represent Royalty, pride, success, accomplishment.
- Extremely Toxic
All True lilies are extremely poisonous, when dealing with lilies you want to avoid eating any part of the flower itself. The stem, the leaves, the petals and even the pollen in the flower is poisonous which is due to the amount of calcium oxalate crystals and cardiac glycosides. Which would be best to keep the flower out of pets and children’s reach so they don’t touch the flower and hurt themselves.
